Benefits of Service
LIVING STIPEND
Members receive a monthly living stipend for the duration of their service term, distributed through the University of Northern Iowa.

SEGAL EDUCATION AWARD
Upon successful completion of the service term, members are eligible to receive the Segal Education Award which can go toward paying for school, paying for qualified student loans, and many other non-traditional uses.
​
HEALTHCARE
Members may be eligible to receive healthcare through CIGNA for the duration of their term of service at no additional cost to the member. *Members must serve a minimum of 32.5 hours/week to qualify for this benefit.
​
MEMBER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Free mental health counseling, financial counseling, legal support, and more for members and their households. AmeriCorps Member Assistance Program (MAP)
​
CHILDCARE
Members are eligible to receive childcare benefits through the AmeriCorps Child Care Program. *Members must serve a minimum of 32 hours/week to qualify for this benefit.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Members are given dedicated time to pursue professional development opportunities, like completing certifications, attending trainings, webinars, and conferences, all while logging hours for the program. Our 11-month and 6-month members are also allotted individual professional development funding from the program that can be used to pay for trainings and certifications throughout their service term.

All members in the program complete a Professional Development Project of their choosing related to their individual professional development goals, to demonstrate skills they've learned while in service while helping the community. These projects are presented at the end of the service term to show off their hard work.

LOAN DEFERMENT, FORBEARANCE & INTEREST ACCRUAL REPAYMENT
Qualified federal student loans may be put into deferment or forbearance during an AmeriCorps service term. Members may also qualify for interest accrual repayment for the loans in forbearance. Individuals should check with their loan-holder to determine if their loans are eligible.
